the response. holds a formal Apprentice Program for young, emerging dancers 19-25 years old who are working towards a professional career in dance. The Apprentice Program is made available periodically to ensure it is in conjunction with appropriate company endeavours and projects. Providing space and opportunity for its accepted participants, selected dancers receive inclusive intensive training in contemporary technique with the company's Artistic Director, Amber Funk Barton, learning to take skills from the classroom to the stage as they receive the additional opportunity to perform with the company.
Past productions including the apprentices from this program are Workspace (2009) and Work Space II (2013) presented by the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Orbits (2015), a Dance Allsorts performance presented by New Works and Space + Time (2016) as part of The Dance Centre’s International Dance Day Events.
The 2017 Installment of the Apprentice Program resulted in paid apprenticeships and performance with the response. for WorkSpace III, a full length production at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts October 26-28, 2017 that also featured work by guest choreographer Heather Laura Gray.
The Apprentice Program is supported by the British Columbia Arts Council, the Landing Dance Centre and the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
