We are thrilled to be hosting our first Dance and Wellness Intensive in September 2019!

Geared towards dancers, dance teachers, actors, dance lovers, creatives, and artists who like to move, this three-day intensive aims to nourish your bodies and souls in a concentrated amount of time in order to support you during the transition from summer to fall.

AMBER FUNK BARTON | Contemporary Dance

Amber Funk Barton is contemporary dance artist, born and raised in Vancouver.  She received her training with Goh Ballet Academy, Arts Umbrella, The Banff Centre Dance Training and Ballet British Columbia’s Mentor Program. Upon completion of her training, she established herself as a professional dance artist in Vancouver. In 2008, Amber founded her contemporary dance company, the response. 

As a choreographer Amber has had her work presented in various venues in Vancouver, across Canada and her work has also extended into. Recent and current projects include the creation of Silas for Joe Laughlin’s solo show, Mortified for Studio 58, #Whatnow with Alley Theatre, Miscellaneous Productions, a new work created in collaboration with Mindy Parfitt and the Firebird for Ballet Kelowna in 2019.     

Amber has been a guest teacher of contemporary dance for Drive Dance Centre’s Scholarship Program, Harbour Dance, iNDUSTRY Dance Training Program, the Training Society of Vancouver (Working Class), Arts Umbrella, Victoria Academy of Dance, The Landing Dance Centre, Polymer Dance, Richmond Academy of Dance, Avant Dance Company and Caulfield School of Dance.  Amber has been invited to set works for the students of Dancestreams, Modus Operandi, Arts Umbrella, Pro Arte Dance, The Landing Dance Centre, Simon Fraser University’s School of Contemporary Arts, Coastal City Ballet and Helix Dance Company. In 2016, Amber launched #dancehappy an outreach initiative through her company that offers free dance class once a month to people of all abilities and ages.  

VANESSA YOUNG | Creative Exploration

Vanessa has over 15 years of professional experience in the international Arts Industry. She is a Certified Creativity Coach and uses her education in coaching, performing arts, and EFT/TFT to provide a well-rounded coaching and healing experience.  

In her own artistic career, Vanessa has trained and performed around the world, working on world tours, music videos, film and television. She has worked as a Choreographer and Movement Coach with renowned artists such as Xavier Rudd, Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jemaine Clement, Bill Irwin, Rachel Keller and many more.

As a Show Writer and Producer, Vanessa has worked on multiple stage shows in the past decade and continues to build her own projects. She is the owner and founder of The Lovers Cabaret and Luminesque Dance and is also an acclaimed "Heels" teacher. Vanessa continues to train, perform, and create shows across the Lower Mainland.


Cristina Bucci completed her studies at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and attained the professional designation as Registered Holistic Nutritionist (R.H.N.) in 2007 and also completed her Advanced Nutrition Studies in 2012. Cristina hopes to share the knowledge that she has gained to educate others on the importance of proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle in order to reach optimal health. She enjoys working with clients one on one in order to develop a customized plan that gives the client suggestions on diet, supplements and lifestyle changes to help bring the body back into balance. Her background as a dancer, choreographer and teacher has also led her to develop seminars with the specific needs of dancers in mind. Her hopes with these seminars are to educate young dancers of the importance of a healthy diet for a successful dance career. Cristina is currently practicing in Vancouver, BC and works with various training programs and dance/performing arts academies throughout the city.


Senaqwila Wyss is Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), Tsimshian, Sto:lo, Hawaiian and Swiss. She will be graduating from SFU in the fall with her B.A. in the faculty of Communications, Arts and Technology, minor in First Nations Studies. She just completed the SFU F.N. Languages Proficiency Certificate in the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim. She is raising her three year old daughter to be a first language speaker, which has not been done in her family four generations. She practices ethnobotany with traditionally trained mom Cease Wyss with indigenous plant medicines.

PATRICIA KIM | Yoga + Meditation

Patricia began her formal movement training at MainDance in 2003, completing the Contemporary Dance Teacher Training Program. She then pursued cinematography at Capilano University combining her love of choreography and film. Her dance films have screened both locally and abroad.  Patricia has since certified as a Pilates Mat, Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis and Vinyasa Yoga Instructor. She is also a Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Pre Trainer. Patricia draws from this varied knowledge base offering a unique approach to Vinyasa Yoga and movement. Patricia took her first Vipassana meditation course in 2017, providing an invaluable key on her wellness path.   It brings Patricia immense joy supporting others feel at home in their physicality in both movement and stillness.
